King Bald Eagle

I have a real admiration for bald eagles—they never fail to leave me in awe. There’s just something about their presence that feels powerful and deeply inspiring. I’m lucky enough to live near the Eagle Mountain Sanctuary at Dollywood, so I get to see these incredible birds up close, and every time, I’m struck by their grace and strength.

What really draws me to bald eagles is everything they stand for: courage, wisdom, and strength. They’re not just the national symbol—they embody what it means to persevere and rise above challenges. In Native traditions, eagles are seen as messengers to the Creator, and I totally get why. Watching them soar, you can’t help but feel inspired to see the bigger picture and live with purpose.

For me, painting or drawing a bald eagle is about capturing that fierce spirit—the sense of freedom, resilience, and quiet power that makes them truly legendary.

Each work begins with an intricately rendered pencil drawing on an 8″ x 8″ wood panel, laying the foundation for the composition. I then introduce color through a refined glazing technique, allowing luminous layers to build depth and vibrancy. The background is completed with expressive, textured paint, a conscious nod to the tumultuous environments in which wildlife must persevere.
