QUEEN RAVEN

My QUEEN RAVEN—she’s got some serious presence. As an artist, I’m fascinated by female ravens: they’re a little bigger than the males and absolutely fearless when it comes to defending their nesT. What I love most is how devoted female ravens are. Their fierce protection and loyalty stand for guardianship and the courage it takes to look out for your own. A fun fact: Ravens mate for life, which means the females play a huge role in keeping those family bonds strong. For me, the queen raven is a perfect symbol of wisdom, long-term loyalty, and the kind of love that lasts.

And with that glossy black plumage and mysterious vibe, ravens are all about bridging worlds—life and death. I have often drawn ravens in my work. They’ve always been seen as messengers, relying on sharp intuition and the ability to see what others miss, and I want others to see that aspect as well.

Each work begins with an intricately rendered pencil drawing on an 8″ x 8″ wood panel, laying the foundation for the composition. I then introduce color through a refined glazing technique, allowing luminous layers to build depth and vibrancy. The background is completed with expressive, textured paint, a conscious nod to the tumultuous environments in which wildlife must persevere.
