KING BLACK BEAR
$350.00
Let’s talk about black bears. I’ve always been drawn to their vibe—there’s this quiet strength and steady courage about them that feels both grounding and inspiring. In so many stories and traditions, black bears pop up as legends: sometimes they’re foraging for snacks, sometimes they’re hunkering down for their winter nap, and other times they’re showing off their epic mama bear instincts.
Personally, I love how bears just know when to slow down and take time for themselves—hibernation is basically nature’s way of saying, “self-care matters.” Their strength isn’t loud or flashy; it’s calm and unshakable, a reminder that you don’t have to be aggressive to be powerful. And if you’ve ever seen a mama bear with her cubs, you know there’s no love fiercer or more protective. And, I respect that.
Fun fact: In Cherokee stories, the black bear is seen as a powerful spirit guide, tied to healing, transformation, and sacred places like Kuwah’hi, the Sacred Mountains. That deep-rooted cultural symbolism is a big part of why I’m so fascinated by them.

Each work begins with an intricately rendered pencil drawing on an 8″ x 8″ wood panel, laying the foundation for the composition. I then introduce color through a refined glazing technique, allowing luminous layers to build depth and vibrancy. The background is completed with expressive, textured paint, a conscious nod to the tumultuous environments in which wildlife must persevere.
