KING SLOTH

I have long adored sloths. I feel like they are my spirit animal. This is the three-toed sloth, famous for moving slowly, native to the tropical forests of Central and South America. I, too, am from South America and am slow-moving…anyway, did you know a single meal can take weeks to digest, so they minimize energy expenditure? This is primarily why they symbolize patience, mindfulness, and conservation, also characteristics I adore. Most people associate sloths with laziness, but I like to think of them as creatures that conserve resources and live in perfect harmony with their surroundings. They are to be treasured, cared for, and admired.

Each work begins with an intricately rendered pencil drawing on an 8″ x 8″ wood panel, laying the foundation for the composition. I then introduce color through a refined glazing technique, allowing luminous layers to build depth and vibrancy. The background is completed with expressive, textured paint, a conscious nod to the tumultuous environments in which wildlife must persevere.
